Manifest your future
A couple of years ago after studying the Silva Method, I had finally discovered there was a name for what I’d been doing all my life: MANIFESTING. The Silva course teaches bringing your mind to a state of relaxed concentration and then vividly picturing the outcome you desire, for any situation (you’ve probably heard of athletes being coached to imagine performing their sport flawlessly over and over again to train the body to do it correctly).
I recently used the Manifesting technique to fix a potentially disastrous travel situation. I was traveling by air from Raleigh to Lake Placid NY for a wedding, and my daughter Erin was flying from Florida; the plan was to meet up in Washington DC to catch the connecting flight together. It was Labor Day weekend
All was well at first—Erin’s flight left on time, I was seated awaiting takeoff on mine. Then the pilot notified us we would be delayed in takeoff for more than an hour, that anyone with connecting flights should get off the plane and meet with a gate agent to reschedule.
I had no way to reach Erin to alert her, and with the holiday weekend it would be difficult for her to get a rental car or to our hotel. By the time she landed I’d be in the air, and unreachable.
I spoke with the flight attendant and several gate agents, explaining my plight. While they sympathized, they all agreed it would not be possible to make my connecting flight. The soonest they could get me to my destination would be the following day.
I returned to my seat on the plane. My lesson in manifesting came to mind. Yes! This is how I could fix it!
I visualized as vividly as possible the outcome I needed. I pictured the plane arriving in DC in time to meet Erin at the gate, both of us doing a Happy Dance at being together, getting on the plane and flying to Plattsburgh, and having a wonderful weekend together. I didn’t picture how this could happen, I had no idea how it could. I only visualized and believed it would.
And that is exactly what happened.
Here’s how all the pieces came together:
Instead of an hour delay, our flight left 45 minutes late. It was still expected to be too late to make the connection.
Nearly everyone on our full flight had deplaned in Raleigh to meet with gate agents. One person did not get back on the plane, so there was an empty seat in the third row and the flight attendant offered it to me.
My new seatmate was a pilot who was deadheading on this flight. He gave me great advice for the very fastest way to get to my new gate: “Take the train, not the tram. Much quicker.”
As I was deplaning, a fellow passenger overheard that I was headed to Plattsburgh, as was he. We helped each other find the train quickly.
The second flight was delayed by a few minutes. Erin was waiting in the gate area. We had just enough time for our Happy Dance before scrambling on board.
When your next crisis hits, whether it’s a sick animal or any other emergency, reach out to those that can help. And then use your own power to create the outcome you want.
